Using a broad range of materials including digital media, sculpture, text, drawing, photography and painting, Milly Thompson is interested in the correlation between commodity and pleasure, the rational and the irrational, hyperbole and tropes of truth or meaning and self consciousness, aspiration, ambition and pleasure in relation to the artworld and social codes.
Milly Thompson worked as part of the collaborative art group BANK from 1994 to 2003 and since then has pursued her solo career. She has had opportunities to show her work in many different environments, from low key group shows to influential solo shows both nationally and internationally.
BANK work is now held in Tate, MOMA New York and Printed Matter collections.
She has received numerous awards and grants and has been a recipient of the Paul Hamlyn Award and The Sargant Scholarship at the British School at Rome.
Milly is a Visiting Tutor in the Painting programme at the Royal College of Art and a Lecturer on MFA Fine Art at Goldsmiths College.
